The Need for Speed...

So for the last 7 months I have been driving a truck that I have had since Junior year in High School which has been lagging extremely bad. Throughout the 7 months I have replaced all the spark plugs, all the wires to the spark plugs, the distributer cap, and the fuel filter. Well, all these replacements did not help the performance of my once very torque filled truck. So I finally spent some real money and had a full diagnostic check down on my truck. The mechanic said that truck is great except that the Fuel Pump was only giving half the pressure that it was supposed too. I figured that this was the issue but I had hoped that it wasn't due to the cost of the fuel pump compared to a distributer cap. The mechanic said they could do it for 375 bucks and I choked. So I went to Autozone and spent 50 bucks for the part and thought this would be a great opportunity to learn how to change a fuel pump. My father-in-law and I spent 3 hours on Saturday and changed the pump. It was quite a process...

1) Remove the fuel tank for the truck.
(Harder than it sounds)
2) Remove all fuel lines and electricity from the fuel tank.
3) Remove Fuel Pump.
4) Replace old fuel pump with new fuel pump.
5) Clean fuel tank.
6) Replace the fuel tank and reconnect fuel lines and electricity.

When looking at the old fuel pump you could tell that it was the issue the whole time. The fuel pumps filter had decomposed and had filled the fuel pump with the material that the filter was made out of. Well, after we filled the tank with some gas it was time to start the truck again. When I turned the ignition it sounded like a new truck that was tired of choking and ready to go out and run. I hit the accelerator and the truck took off as of old (even leaving some rubber down in the garage). I love my truck!!!!
