one

My sweet boy turned 1 on December 20th.  Now he is 13 months and these pictures are practically outdated since babies change so much everyday, but I wanted to get it documented somehow.  We had a small birthday party in Utah before we left and then another one in Arizona over the holiday season.

Utah Party

Trying to get away from the cake - he does NOT like getting messy.

I put E on the ground thinking he would get into it a little more,
but he refused and just wanted a spoon instead.  This was as messy as he dared to get.

Arizona Party

That photo on the table is from E's 1-year shoot at Kiddie Kandids.  He scowled for 87 pictures and then finally smiled for the 88th.  We purchased the smile and this scowl.  Silly boy.

(the only cousin pic we got that night)

  • As a toddler, Emerson loves cars.  He makes the noise when he's playing with them. It's adorable - 'vooommmmmmm' -breath- 'vooommmmmmm.'

  • I love watching him play and learn.  He is such a smart little guy and catches on to tasks so quickly.
  • He has graduated from the 2nd percentile to the 17th percentile in weight.  Still small (some of his onesies still say 3-6 months), but getting bigger.  He started walking just this last week and loves it. He looks pretty funny when walking because he's so small.  He looks way too small to be toddling around.
  • Emerson has 8 front teeth plus 2 molars.
  • I love how he sleeps face down with his bum in the air - so cute all bunched up.

  • We love to 'wrestle.'  Basically I lie down on the floor and he comes and flops on me, then rolls over me and flops again.  My favorite is when he smooshes his cheeks on my face and drools all over me.  Gotta love baby lick.
  • He waves at children when they walk by in stores.
  • We live RIGHT NEAR the train tracks in Biloxi.  Every time E hears a train, he comes to find me and points outside so we can go watch it.  Then he moves his arm up and down like a train conductor when I say, "Choo choo."
  • He loves to read stories and often turns the pages faster than I'm able to keep up.

  • Emerson is a champion sleeper.  He will let me read a few stories and maybe sing a couple songs, but when he's ready to sleep he leans toward the crib and dives in.  I lay him down and he reaches for his blanket, then turns his head and closes his eyes.  It's miraculous, really.
  • Favorite food: cheese. Hands down. Nothing else even comes close.
  • Bath time is never long enough for Emerson.  He could stay in there all day if I let him.
  • E hates to have anything stuck on his hands.  Crumbs, dirt, stickers, food, hair. He holds out his hand and grunts for us to remove it.

He had help from us to get that on his nose.
  • Hats are out of the question.  He doesn't like anything on his head either.  See above photo for proof.
  • Emerson is very organized.  I very rarely see him make a mess and not try to clean it up.  If he gets something out, he puts it back.  When playing, he takes things out one at a time and puts them back one at a time.  That's how he plays.
  • He is the most pleasant baby ever.  Even when he is sick, or teething, or cranky, his crankiness is so mild I can hardly even call it cranky.

Goodbye babyhood, here we come toddlerhood.

Bring it on.

  1. So cute and fun. He sounds a lot like Landon did at that age but I hope for your sake he has a much better second year than Landon did :)
